Not For The Poor or Overweight Girls. Run Away!
I rarely pay full price for a book. This one was so highly disappointing and full of absolute nonsense. I was shocked by the relationship abuse that then turns out to be her HUSBAND. What in the world? So because he asked her to marry him, he went from being awful and abusive to Mr Wonderful and now they are doing marriage conferences (for the rich of course)? No. I am not buying that one. Please don’t use one bible verse to make sex with your husband under any circumstances acceptable. Abuse is abuse. I felt so talked down to in the sex chapter. Oh you were sexually abused? The,e of the book is, get over it already. If only it were that simple. But dor those who have been sexually abused, you can heal and learn to cope, but there is always this trigger element and you never know when that is going to pop up and set you back. It’s not about pulling yp your boot straps and deciding to be happy. There is actually some psychological aspects that go deeper than that pat answer.
I couldn’t believe the attitude towards those parents who lostntheir children to foster care. How can you say you are in charge of your own happiness, make yourself better etc to the women reading your book and in the same breath, dog on parents who have messed up and might even be addicts who are struggling? All while you tell us YOU were an alcoholic during this period?! Pot meet kettle. Was your addiction so much better because you are rich? Because you hid it better? Because you were still functioning as an alcoholic? That made it okay? Made you better than those other parents?! Wow.
Let’s talk about being overweight... Clearly clueless. Being skinny is apparently the end all to everything. If you’re fat, you’re a lazy and useless human full of excuses and not to be trusted or believed. I mean we can’t even take care of ourselves properly nor can we keep promises or commitments to ourselves.
Throwing in a few bible verses to suit the story doesn’t make it biblical. Not everyone has the ability to go out and do whatever they want. Real life sometimes does dictate where we are and what we are able to accomplish. Most of us aren’t born with a silver spoon in our mouths (and then marry a Disney exec) and do not get to make choices because the finances aren’t there to back them up.
If you are wealthy and looking for fluff to make you feel good and Christian, you may enjoy this book. If you’re broke and overweight, you’ll likely see right through the Christianese and judgment in this book. Prosperity gospel...
