Rubber Coating BECOMES STICKY AND FALLS OFF SOON. (UPDATE Oct 2020)
Sent the binocs to CANON for repair, they got unusable as the coating became as sticky as drying oily paint, had to send them back in a plastic back which I am sure they had to tear off, IT COSTS MORE TO REPAIR THAN TO PURCHASE NEW ONES. STILL DONT KNOW, BUT MOSTLY ANY OILY THING SUCH AS HAND CREAM, SUNBLOCK, EVEN HAD SWEAT WILL RUIN THE FINISH. I RECOMMEND YOU STAY AWAY FROM THIS TYPE OF FINISH OR BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WITH IT. LOOK AT THE PHOTO OF THE ESTIMATE. Great Optics, IS, BUT, as many other buyers of Canon IS binoculars, the rubberized coating becomes rally sticky, and it starts peeling off, one day it just starts to become so sticky your fingerprints start to become permanent like if it was fresh paint, my only option has been to put gaffer tape all over it to keep on using them. It costs hundreds of dollars to repair, cheap coating, for what they cost, if properly taken care of, they should last a lifetime, they only last a few years before the coating falls off and they look terrible.
