★★☆☆☆
Half the chapters aren't even about the titular character!
My biggest pet peeve with fantasy novels is the over reliance on pov switches. They never work; it's jarring for the reader and leads to an incohesive story. Rise of The Ranger is no exception. I found myself skipping chapters (about half of them) to get to the parts about Asher. Aside from that, Rise of the Ranger is a bog standard fantasy novel with magic, elves and dragons but buoyed by professional writing. An okay book if you have time to kill.
