It's... just awful.
There is so much wrong with this show, I'm not entirely sure where to start, so bear with me, please, if I jump around a bit.
To start with... How does one get so many little details right, and get the overarching plot, important plot setups, scenery/location, and descriptions so very, very wrong?
Little, throw-away lines that are utterly wrong. Other lines that could've fixed half an episode. Forced drama, knocking boots for no reason other than 'well, game of thrones did it!'.
(Spoilers ahead; read at your own risk)
Say, fellow fans... did you know that the Dragon Reborn could be a woman? Yeah! For some reason, it's just as bad a thing if it's a woman -they never really explain why, just don't think about it too much. Never mind the entirety of the back plot involving Saidan being tainted; it doesn't matter. Inclusivity means we can't ask questions, and it could just as easily be a woman, thank you.
Did you also know, Two Rivers folks love to run around and have sex? It's totally something they get up to... quite often. Egwene and Rand, Lan and Nynaeve... knock all the boots, who cares about build up?
Did you also know, Perrin is married! Why, you may ask? Well, simple viewer, to create dramatic tension! We see they're fighting, and Perrin loves someone else! Oh no, what will we do?! Well... nothing. Because Perrin kills her twenty minutes in. But it gets better, dear viewer... It turns out, he actually is mad crushing on Egwene!
Oh, and did you also know, dear viewer, that another woman can burn you out by linking? That thing that it's said, numerous times, very pointedly, that cannot be done?
Or that Moiraine is stilled by Ishamael? Well, I'm presuming it's Ishamael -hopefully they didn't botch it up that bad. Oh, also? Moiraine is just carrying around the little man statue that links to the the most powerful Sa'angreal in creation. Why? Don't ask why she'd be carrying around something that only a man can use; it doesn't matter, dear viewer!
Oh, and when Rand asks Moiraine to teach him how to channel, what does she say? "That's like a bird trying to teach a fish to fly?" That oh so famous and oft-repeated line? No. "We don't have time; you'll learn when fear and adrenaline kick in! That's how I learned! A random unnamed Aes Sedai beat me black and blue to teach me! That thing that very specifically didn't happen in the books!"
Oh, Aglemar, one of the Five Great Generals? Yeah, he dead. His sister? She channels, relatively powerful -enough to light an entire hallway of torches with little effort -but not powerful enough to be an Aes Sedai. But it doesn't matter! Know why? She's dead too. Yup. And she took two random channelers who weren't Aes Sedai with her, because she drew too much while they were linked and killed them.
Oh, and Moiraine and Suian? They knocking boots. With Moiraine in a power top role. I wish I was joking, dear reader, but unfortunately, I am not.
Oh, and the Horn of Valere? Aglemar just kept it in a box under his throne. Just tucked under his throne, where apparently quite a few people knew where it was.
Thom Merillin? Who? That cowboy dude we saw for ten minutes? Complete with western music? Nah, he's not important; ten minutes of screen time was totally enough.
The entire Camelyn plot line? Introducing the future Amyrlin Seat, Queen of Andor, Egwene's warder, Rand's girlfriend, Rand's half-brother? Nah, we don't need any of that.
Oh, Liandrin? She straight by the way. She's got a boyfriend she sleeps with -a dock worker. That character who was very much gay and hated men? Yeah, she's straight!
Oh, that whole plot line of them traveling to Fal Dara? Nah, the Ways. That's it. Ten minutes of traveling in the ways, and boom! We're in the DESERT of the BORDERLAND city of Fal Dara... Where Min is living, Aglemar is rude to Aes Sedai, and Rand, Perrin, Nynaeve, and Egwene argue about who is the Dragon Reborn.
Where is Mat while all this is happening? Who knows! Our loveable rogue decided to ditch his friends! Yup, Mat just simply said, "Nah. This is too whacked for me, I'm out."
A sentiment I wholeheartedly agreed with at the very end of Season 1... when the Seanchan arrived. Yeah. The Seanchan. Minus the whole Imperial China vibe that made them so interesting.
When you see the good reviews for this show? Check something out; see if it's someone who has read the books. Because literally no one who has read the book can possibly enjoy this. It guts the books, drags out the characters, and then mashes them all together with a hodgepodge mishmash of plots all the way from book 1 to 7.
