Historical rubbish
1st Jones herself and her NYTs publishers admit that this is a work of journalism, not history. It fails as journalism too. It might pass as counter-factual history. 1619 has been debunked by the top historians of the American Revolution, slavery and the civil war: Gordon Woods, James McPherson, James Oakes, Sean Wilentz, Victoria Bynum (“Free State of Jones”) and too many more to list here have written letters to the AHA Journal and the NYTs. . It’s enough to know that the author argues that the Revolution of 1776 was fought to preserve slavery in the face of a British threat to abolish it. Of course this is a absolute rubbish without factual basis.1619 advances an extreme identity politics narrative of perpetual race war in a country with racism “in its DNA. “ It disappears abolitionism, Lincoln, and even Frederick Douglass and MLK since they worked alongside whites. Save your money.
