Why didn't I read the reviews first????
This book was a chore to get through. I rolled my eyes so many times I have a headache. At 10% through I almost put it in the DNF pile. I wish I had. If I haven't warned you off yet, let me give you a list: *********SPOILERS************** 1) Amber/Ambs/Angel is the most magnificent, beautiful, sweet creature that ever walked the planet. She's nothing but sunshine, rainbows and unicorn dust. She so gorgeous it hurts to look at her. She hates the slutty girls that are always trying to get into the pants of her brother Jake and his BFF Liam (both total manwhores), because they are just skanks. 2) Amber has been physically and sexually abused by her father who left 3 years ago. She cannot stand to be touched by anyone, but is ok with Liam climbing into her bed every night. She hates Liam, calls him a manwhore and a jerk all the time, but is ok with his "morning glory" (really????) pressing against her every morning. Liam grabs her butt at school and she freaks outs and knees him in the groin, (I mean, he TOUCHED her! OMG!) Liam is horrified that she thinks he would hurt her, and I'm sure he walks around grabbing girl's butts all the time, that's what manwhores do. But shortly thereafter, Liam kisses her and then suddenly she's ok with him molesting her every chance he gets. She needs to take it slow, may not be ready for sex for years, but Liam is willing to wait however long it takes. Turns out, it only takes 5 days and she's ready to do the deed. But that is NOT skanky behavior like those other girls at her school, because she's an angel. Jake is really mad that Liam (who was warned off of Amber repeatedly) is now with Amber. But he gets over it in about 5 minutes, because he's got girls to sleep with and beer to drink. 3) Apparently Amber's mom is not concerned with all the abuse she and Jake have suffered, because she has a job that keeps her away for weeks at a time. Of course she wouldn't call the police to press charges against her ex-husband, he only tried to rape her daughter in front of her brother and Liam. Of course Liam never thought to tell his parents about this abuse. And apparently no one ever saw the broken bones and bruises on the kids (doctors, teachers, neighbors, anyone?). And don't even think about sending Amber to counseling, why would a good parent do that? Just leave the kids to their own devices, I'm sure they'll be fine! 4) Liam's parents are so much better. I mean, just because they never notice their son's BFF is covered in bruises and don't notice that Liam hasn't spent the night in his own room in 10 YEARS doesn't mean they aren't good parents. Right? 5) I love how Liam has (quite willingly) had sex with dozens of girls, yet after Amber he just can't stand to look at any of them. There are over 200 girls (where is this school?) that each put $20 in a pot to try to be the next one he has sex with. Because 18 year old high school boys are just so good in the sack I guess. He's horrified at the bet. It's ok to be in love with Angel and have sex with other girls, but not ok to date her and have sex with other girls. That totally makes sense to me. 6) The dialogue in this book is so cheesy and unbelievable it made me cringe at times. No one in high school talks that way. Ever. No 16 year old girl calls her boyfriend "lover boy". 7) Supposedly, this takes place somewhere in America (somewhere 3 hours from Boston), but all the dialogue points to it being in the UK. British spellings and phrasing abound. It almost takes away from the awful dialogue (I wish). 8) There is a surprise pregnancy (because an Angel can't be bothered to read directions and Liam can't be bothered with condoms), and of course Liam wants to keep the baby (all teen boys want to be fathers, right?) because he's going to be a pro hockey player someday and money won't be a problem. Never mind what they'll do for money in the 4+ years between then and now, they'll live on love I guess. But wait! Of course she will miscarry the baby a day later, because a pregnancy/baby might get in the way of their sex life. And that kind of book would mean them learning that actions have consequences. 9) Guess what? Dad's back! And he's got a new family that he's abusing! But he still wants Amber, because she's "ripe like a peach" (again, who talks like that?), and hot like her mom when she was young. But still, no one call the police, because THAT WOULD ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE! 10) The epilogue tells us the Liam is a pro hockey player (was there any doubt?) and Amber gets a college degree in dance choreography (I just can't). The paparazzi are all over Liam (haven't you ever noticed the plethora of hockey players that TMZ is following?) and by association Amber (because again, sunshine/rainbows/unicorn dust). How could the paps not be all over her, you can probably see her inner light glowing from space! I apologize for totally rambling here, but this book (and its unbelievably stupid characters) just sent me over the edge! It feels good to get it all out. Bottom line: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS ABOMINATION OF LITERATURE! If I can save one person from wasting their money on this it will have been worth it.
