I have no idea how this soil gets good reviews. My home is a jungle of houseplants and after all these years, I know what works best for keeping them healthy and #1 in my book is fast draining soil in terra cotta pots. Root rot from sitting in a wet pot kills plants rapidly. This soil is so fine, it’s ridiculous. I knew as soon as I opened the bag that it was going to retain too much water but I tried it anyway. Sure enough, the one pot I used it in literally stayed wet for 2 weeks. Roots like to be able to easily grow through the potting medium and this soil becomes so compacted, that’s not possible. Not to mention the ridiculously high price. Or the fact that I suddenly had swarms of fungus gnats. I don’t know if the bag was infested or if it was just the simple fact of that soil remaining so wet which attracts them immediately. Either way, I’m sticking with the super cheap, quick-draining soil I’ve used for years.
