Monster does not honor it's own guarantee
I purchased this to protect a ~$2000 52inch tv from surges, etc., at the same time I purchased the tv. I chose this partly because of the specifications and partially because it boasted a product protection guarantee. I installed it as specified in the directions (not that it's complicated, but wanted to ensure I was properly protected) and everything worked fine.
About 4 months later, during a thunderstorm, my house was hit by a surge and the power went out. When the power came back on, neither this "power center" nor the tv worked, apparently fried from the surge.
I contacted Monster and submitted my claim to them per their specifications. I submitted their forms completed, estimates for repair and mailed them the fried unit. About 9 weeks later, I received a letter from them stating they examined the unit and found it to be damaged (duh), but they were not going to pay for the damage to my They were not clear on the reason why, only that they were not even willing to return the burnt unit I had sent them (it was still under warranty!), and that they were unwilling to pay for the damage it allowed to happen to my tv.
I registered a complaint with the better business bureau and the New York State Consumer Protection Board, and Monster, for the most part, ignored the complaints.
I don't have to think twice before writing Monster off as a company whose products I will avoid. Refusing to honor a guarantee or warranty is even more offensive than having a product that fails, and Monster has clearly demonstrated their apathy towards their customers' opinions.
