Knowing how challenging it is to write a novel, I hesitate to give a bad review to any brave soul who attempts it. However, I feel compelled to warn others before they waste time on this one. It's obvious that this is a first novel and the author needs either a professional editor or a course in creative writing. The plot sounded promising but the writing was so flowery, over the top and repetitive that I quit reading after three chapters.
Examples: The character's hand being held = a "cradled appendage" - character getting dressed = "fitted himself" - "polishing the part in his hair" = huh? - "both were feeling Italian dishes" (were they touching the spaghetti?).
There are phrases the author got stuck on: "widened her eyes" - "consumed his focus."
Also jarring to me: "pellets of hail pelted" - "she turned from his advancement" - "Daisies, tulips and lilacs filled a glass vase offering a colorful mixture of vegetation."
This one was the last straw for me: "His nose received a hint of Lois' natural scent, which stimulated his receptive olfactory nerve."
Sometimes even free is too much to pay.
