Recently I decide to save up for my first big purchase into sound gear, the Rode NTG3. I got it in and hooked it up, I wasn't impressed, even disappointed. But all the reviews I read, the fact it was my first time using a shot gun mic and the knowledge that it was a $700 mic left me feeling that it was something I was doing wrong. Well I was double checking something on the rode site when they had this announcement plastered over the top. From Rode website "Important information about purchasing from Amazon in the US. RØDE Microphones does not authorize Fulfilled By Amazon. We have purchased counterfeit RØDE products using Fulfilled by Amazon and highly recommend that you only purchase RØDE products from authorised dealers. If you purchase any RØDE microphone from an unauthorized dealer via Fulfilled By Amazon you will not receive any US warranty or technical support." Amazon gave me a refund even though I didn't have the original box and it was over 90 days after my purchase. They were great about it, but still was leery of the fact I may have spent so much money for a fake. Today I got my mic in (ordered from B&H) and the change was noticeable. I got good levels at a much lower input level on my Zoom H4N, hiss was much less and the audio sounded fuller. I had a fake mic for sure. Amazon did right by me, but still felt like I need to give a warning!
