Good when it works, but doesn't last long.
This trap is pretty hit-or-miss. Depends very much on where you place it. I took the advice of others and baited the steps with peanut butter and that seemed to work. The most mice I've gotten at once is 5 (this is for a horse barn office = lots of mice!). I would give it a higher rating except that it now doesn't work at all. Just flashes red even with new batteries. The unit itself says that it will flash fast red when not working, slow red when batteries are dead, but I have no idea what is slow vs. fast; I can only assume it is malfunctioning since I've put in new batteries. So, it worked for a whopping 3.5 months. Pretty expensive for that time-period.
UPDATE: Bought another one because we have a serious mouse problem in our tack room/office. Baited it with peanut butter inside, plus a bit on both sets of steps. Turned it on and the next morning there were ELEVEN mice in the drawer. Smaller traps set in different places didn't get any, but this one did. I will increase the star rating if it lasts longer than a few months. Otherwise, that's a cost of roughly $8/mouse so far....
UPDATE 2: Just under three months in and the unit has quit working entirely. Put new batteries in when it started flashing red (slow flash) and now it is flashing red rapidly (indicating a problem). No information comes with the device allowing you to determine what the problem is and how to fix it. After that first kill of 11 mice, we got maybe 4-5 more over 2 months. Instead of increasing the star rating from a 3 up, I decreased it down to a 1. Just doesn't last which makes it an expensive way of killing mice. :(
