CAVEAT EMPTOR! re: Seller 12/29 UPDATE + IMPORTANT FYI
As promised, here is my update ... Bottom line is that Amazon not only surprised but delighted me by their response ... hats off to Amazon! FYI - The Stander Handybar does not fit all cars. We tried it on all of our family cars plus our main caregiver's car and found only one that worked. I checked the Stander website for a list of Handybar compatible cars but did not find one. Robin's Sister Be careful when buying this product from GreaTravel (the first seller identified when you search for "Handybar" on Amazon's website). I ordered what I thought was a Handy Bar by Stander on December 16 from GreaTravel. What I received instead was a cheap knock-off called The AquaGear HandyBar. The Stander Handy Bar is made in the USA, has a weight capacity of 350 pounds, and a lifetime guarantee. The AquaGear HandyBar is made in China, does not contain any information about weight capacity, and has no guarantee. I purchased the HandyBar for my brother who is developmentally disabled and lives with me. At 67, he is becoming increasingly unsteady during transfers from wheelchair to car and vice versa so his occupational therapist recommended this product. My brother is very afraid of falling so he has been "asking" (he has no speech so uses signs) whether or not his HandyBar has arrived every day since I told him I had ordered it. Needless to say, I am not going to trust my brother's well-being to an ersatz product so am returning it. My brother is very disappointed so I've taken a chance and ordered what I hope will be a genuine Stander HandyBar from Mr. Medical. (Although Mr. Medical charges about $5.00 more than GreaTravel, it has a 100% positive rating over the past 12 months from 43,058 buyers.) I'll report back to the Amazon community about the degree to which Amazon surprises (or maybe even delights) me in response to this issue. Here's what I hope Amazon will do: 1) promptly refund the $20.88 I paid for the ersatz Handy Bar 2) intervene with GreaTravel so that they stop selling ersatz Handy Bars; if GreaTravel refuses, remove them as the "first-choice" provider of this product on the Amazon website 3) reimburse me for the costs of returning the ersatz item 4) pay me the difference in cost between the ersatz Handy Bar and (let us hope) a genuine Handy Bar sold by Mr. Medical ($25.99 - $20.88 = $5.11) 5) ask Mr. Medical to priority ship the genuine HandyBar to me so that it arrives in time to give my brother a happy (and safe) Christmas
