****IMPORTANT MUST READ******
PLEASE READ THIS: After buying 2 of these I read some of the stories about them not working and decided to do my own testing. First I tried to set the unit off using just the gas from a disposable cigarette lighter. Nothing happened. I then decided to see if the unit worked at all so I placed the unit in my Propane Weber gas grill and turned on the gas to high. After about A MINUTE the alarm did sound, so this one does work, but only at a high concentration of gas. See Photograph. Doing a little research I learned that Natural Gas is lighter than air and will gather at the highest point of a confined space. Anyone who plugs this into a wall outlet is kidding themselves. When Natural gas reaches a concentration of between 5 and 15 % of the confined space it can explode. That's probably the top 18" off your ceiling. This is why your detector comes with a 5' length of wire. So you can plug it in but mount the detector high in the room for Nature Gas. Final note: Propane is heavier than air, so If you have Propane tanks a wall socket will work.
