Doesn't Drain, Bad Design All Around!
This dish rack has the potential to be great - it's sheer size is fantastic. And I loved the quirky "Aqua Sky" color! But I would never buy this dish rack again unless KitchenAid addresses several major design flaws that, in my opinion, can easily be remedied with the right engineering. One, the drain is unmovable which means you can only position the dish rack one way - horizontally. I don't know about you but my kitchen was built in the late 1950s and as a result we don't have the luxury of counter space. I should have paid more attention to this feature before purchasing it, as other folks commented on this inconvenient quirk. I just thought the inconvenience of a horizontal dish rack would not be quite so....inconvenient. Two, the design of this dish rack makes no sense - it doesn't drain! The rack sits completely, 100% flat on the counter, which means in order for water to drain correctly the back end of the rack needs to be tilted toward the sink. Some folks bought tabs/stickers to try and raise the back end. For some that correction worked, for others it didn't seem to correct it completely. I'm sorry but for the cost of this item I shouldn't have to jerry-rig the rack to drain properly - it should have never left the factory if it couldn't drain right. Because of the poor drainage the drain pan gets filthy pretty quickly and requires routine cleaning. If you don't clean it a brown-green film, reminiscent of high school biology class, starts to grow on the drain pan and we all know how delightful that looks. I would research other options and steer clear of this dish rack until (hopefully) the design flaws are corrected. Come on KitchenAid! You're better than this!
