It seemed like a gread idea...
I have been using this lame for several months now and what was initially great excitement has become a bit of buyers remorse.
Lets begin at the beginning. The packaging. The box the lame comes in is nice and the molded foam insert is a great touch. The lame does not quite fit in perfectly, but it is good enough for what it is.
It comes with a couple blades. They aren't my favorite blades, that goes to Feather (I have been shaving with them for years) but they are more than sufficient to slit some bread dough.
The lame itself feels great in the hands. It is a nice piece of stainless steel. It has some good weight to it. The machining is a bit rough and not finished well, but again.. this just needs to slit some bread dough.
The design, however, is where the true disappointment lies. The whole idea of this lame is that you can switch between a curved and straight blade. When I first bought this, I wasn't sure which I might prefer. The short answer is either but not both. The design of the lame itself has (as shown in all of the pictures) a thumb screw which you can use to take the blade off and move a washer to change between straight and curved blade "modes". That same thumb screw gets in the way when scoring a loaf. It is not possible to get a good clean slit that is deep enough to keep the top of the loaf from blowing out during baking. And the harder you try, the more you mar the loaf.
TLDR; Everything about this lame is good enough except the entire concept. Skip over this and buy a more traditional lame.
