Terribly implausible
The author hasn't thought through how an EMP works. The book begins with a light plane crashing into a forest because the plane loses all power when the EMP hits. OK, fine. But a snowmobile on the ground in the forest doesn't stop running and the rider hears the roar of the plane engine (yeah, the same engine that stopped running) just before the plane crashes. Oh, and toilets don't flush, because they require an electric pump. But the rest of the plumbing still works. And everything with a circuit board is kaput, except all the portable generators still run. In fact, one portable generator that's described at 7-10k watt runs so well that it'll power the furnace in a 14 room B&B. And the power is out all over the nation. We know this because a character has heard it on the radio. No mention of how or where there's a functional radio transmitter. Another character is frustrated, so he kicks an ATV, tipping it over. Wow, that's some kick. And all this before I'm even halfway through the book.
