I purchased this steamer after doing only a moderate amount of research, but I assumed that 1,178 almost 5 star reviews could not lead me in the wrong direction - I was wrong. First, I appreciate this is a simple steamer meant to steam clothing, but the instructions were just lacking. I filled the body of the steamer with distilled water as instructed and put the top on and allowed the steamer to heat up only to discover I had put the top on backwards. I grabbed the top (not the steam part, but the area where it connects) and quickly found out how hot the device gets. I unplugged the whole thing and started from scratch. After I got the top on correctly and the water was heated I then discovered I needed to add more water because I waited too long (seven minutes) and all the water had - surprise! - turned to steam. I unplugged the steamer, carefully took the top off and added more water, then plugged it back in and waited for the steam to reappear. Thinking nothing of it, I tipped the steamer at an angle to steam my knitting project that was laying flat on the floor and was instantly scalded with boiling hot water. That sucked. I thought maybe I had filled the reservoir too full, but I checked and it was barely halfway full. Maybe I was having a moment of stupid optimism, but I decided to try again, only I thought I would tip the steamer just partially over - nope, boiling hot water again. I did some more research and found another steamer for the same price that promises it can be used at any angle.
