When I bought this, I opened it and left it in the garage because I'd been expecting the smell after reading all of the reviews. I left it there for well over a week and the smell never fully went away. Eventually I got impatient and put it on my bed anyway. It felt awesome, however... I started getting strange symptoms; unusual breathing problems, like I was starting to develop asthma or something (I don't have asthma), little pains over my body when I'd lay on it, sinus headaches, red eyes, and worse sleep. I figured out that all of this had started when I started sleeping on the mattress topper, so I took it off of my bed. I had to wash all of my blankets and sheets and pajamas, because the smell had permeated them as well. Anyway, I was fine again within 2 days of removing it. I'm really sensitive to scents and chemicals, so it's really no surprise that the fumes from this thing were unbearable. The upside to this is that the company took it back and refunded my money without any fuss. Kudos to them. To summarize - If you're sensitive to chemicals and/or have allergic reactions to scents, stay far away from this mattress topper. If you're not, go for it, because it felt great to me otherwise!
