This author is the sloppiest historical romance author I have ever had the misfortune to read. Her vocabulary is poor, with many words used incorrectly. She makes little attempt to imbue her novels with authenticity. Her hero and heroine use modern phrases and slang, and she thinks if she throws in a "verily" once in a while we won't notice the otherwise poor dialogue. Her plot is thin, her characters are poorly fleshed out, and her historical accuracy is nonexistent. Unfortunately I made the mistake of buying this book along with its sequel. What a waste of money. I don't think I can bear to bring myself to read the sequel, the first one was so bad. I would recommend that Ms. McKnight stick to other genres.
