For the amount of money, these should be better quality and not a potential accident waiting to happen!
We've had the original, lighter Bowflex dummbell set for a couple years now and my boyfriend was ready to move up to something heavier. The lighter set is amazing, we've never had any problems with it. However, this heavier set has been giving us problems ever since we got it. When we first started using it, one of the dumbbells dropped a plate (luckily, not on a foot or worse-- what happened if it fell off while doing bench press or above the head shoulder exercises?). So, we called customer service and ran through the motions to get a new barbell handle delivered to us. Now, that same problem is happening. We aren't sure if it's the same barbell or not, but this is obviously a bad problem.
We compared the two sets to each other and we noticed that the plates on the lighter set have a metal notch for the plates to grip, whereas the heavier set is made of the same material that the plate is made of, smooth plastic. This is obviously the source of the problem.
We do not drop the weights, when my boyfriend is using them I spot him and help them down to the ground so this is not user error.
They should make a better quality product and customer service will be hearing from us again. I paid way too much money for this faulty product- which is a shame because we like our original set and I even bought a nice Bowflex stand for this set.
