Understand what SOMA is actually claiming before you buy this filter
Just so you know, "being certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 42" means nothing other than that water looks and tastes better after going through this filter. It explicitly DOES NOT MEAN that it filters out chemicals or biological compounds. In other words, it isn't guaranteed to reduce the chlorine, fluoride, giardia, lead, or any other undesirable junk from your water. If you want more than the superficial treatment this filter offers, find a filter that meets NSF/ANSI Standard 53 instead. Otherwise, know that this SOMA filter does the same job as a Brita, at twice the price but in an admittedly nicer-looking package.
Furthermore, the biodegradable plastic (PLA - mostly derived from GMO corn) from which the SOMA filters are constructed is only industrially compostable. Don't throw it into the compost pile in your garden and expect it to disappear. Unless you keep consistently high temperatures and aeration, and maintain high moisture in your compost, these PLA filters will be hanging around for decades. Literally.
In a nutshell, SOMA-treated water may taste better than tapwater, but it won't be any healthier for you. Personally, I would like BOTH better-tasting and better-for-me water coming out of my filter.
