Do not buy! Dangerous amount of plastic leaching!
DO NOT BUY. Dangerous amount of plastic leaching!
MCT oil has no smell and almost no taste. I opened this bottle and was completely overwhelmed by a strong plastic odor mixed with the signature fruity smell of the plastic acetyldehydes, and a very strong taste of plastic (antimony and plasticizers actually).
This seems to be bottled in a plastic type (PET) that has the same carbon and hydrogen chain as MCT oil (well one of them rather) this has very obviously degraded the plasticizers and caused intense contamination of the product. I was already suspicious when I touched the bottle and it was incredibly soft.
This is extremely dangerous, MCT oil is almost pure 10 and 8 bond, which will rapidly highly degrade the bottle into the oil. Given the way MCTs are metabolized in the body this will rapidly dessiminate these hormone interfering compounds into the body. (I am chemically very sensitive to plastic compounds as they highly disrupt my endocrine system even at 'food safe' levels of leaching, this bottle has well beyond food safe levels, absolutely disgusting).
This is horrendously irresponsible.
It's possible the fruity smell is from a palm oil contaminant but not the residue in the container or the structural weakening of the container. Most likely this bottle was allowed to reach a temperature of 140 degrees F during storage or shipment which will immediately start to degrade PET and most food approved plastics in the presence of certain oil chain lengths or certain acids (like many fruit juices).
Since MCT oil is often purchased for seizure control and brain function this kind of plastic leaching and endocrine interference is extremely dangerous and irresponsible of the manufacturer.
Unfortunately I had to open the bottle and taste it to discover this so I don't have a way to refund this in good conscience, so i am posting this review to warn others about this high risk product. (Again more likely excess heat catalyzing the degradation but improper washing before filling these intitally (antimony), rigorous testing(no plastic contamination in product after storage at room temp for ~1 year. The usual full degradation time of all food grade plastics in contact with most oils, just at room temp (faster if hotter)), or general foresight about environmental shipping conditions (any food safety course should teach about heat, food, and plastic interactions and the dangers).)
