This is NOT a non-toxic product
I have ordered these wipes based on the ingredient slist found here and on babyganics website. However, once the product was in my hands, the ingredients list is VERY different : the wipes contain phenoxyethanol, potassium sorbate and fragrance. There was already the Benzalkonium Chloride and the PEG 5 that I was not happy with, but if it was just that, I could live with it... however add fragrance, potassium sorbate and phenoxyethanol, and I don't want this product nowhere near my baby.
I entered the ingredients on EWG Skin Deep database "build your own report", and it got a 4, "moderate health hazard". On a scale of 10, it's already way too much for a baby, whose organs are developping.
Major offenders :
- DIHYDROXYPROPYL PEG 5 LINOLEAMMONIUM CHLORIDE : Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive), Contamination concerns (ETHYLENE OXIDE, 1,4-DIOXANE Rated 3)
- FRAGRANCE : Neurotoxicity, Allergies/immunotoxicity, Miscellaneous (rated 8)
- BENZALKONIUM CHLORIDE : Allergies/immunotoxicity, Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs), Use restrictions (rated 6)
- PHENOXYETHANOL : Allergies/immunotoxicity, Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs), Occupational hazards, Use restrictions (rated 3)
- POTASSIUM SORBATE : Allergies/immunotoxicity, Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive rated 3)
I particularly don't appreciate that the ingredients are falsely represented - given that the wipes are advertised as non toxic, they obviously target a customers base that read ingredients. I call this scam.
I am now very wary of the "preservative" that is inside the all purpose wipes, and that is not named... I am going to try to find out what it is.
