Do Not Buy
Ok, here it is 5:49am EST and I am going to write my review on this product. For those just interested in the bottom line - Just buy a $40 glass french press, they work better and make great coffee.
Here's why:
I like Le Creuset, I like the look and the construction - this was a HUGE disappointment. The actual press/steel mesh part of it is cheap and is not fit very well to the carafe. It also has the propensity to spew hot liquid and coffee grounds EVERYWHERE (what I just finished cleaning up for the 10th time prior to writing this, when all I wanted was my morning coffee before I go to work). There is no fill line, and because the innards are so poorly fit to the carafe when you go to operate the plunger coffee shoots out of the spout along with grounds and makes a huge mess. It is possible to avoid this, however I have not found a very good way yet. It seems like you have to push the plunger down extremely gently - I'm sorry, did I just spend $70 on a french press that does not work as good as a $40 one from Target? What am I paying the extra money for? The carafe itself is a nice shape and of fair quality, it would absolutely smash to pieces if dropped in a sink or on a hard counter top. Not to mention that the Lid does not fit well and rattles around. I'm sorry, did I just pay SEVENTY DOLLARS for something that is no more durable and not as well fit as a $40 option? I'm a sucker, and this thing is not worth it. Take that $30 you'll save and buy some good coffee.
