Does not have a long enough slot for standard envelopes. Here's the thing. If you like to shred the obvious credit card offers that come in your mail without wasting time opening them, they won't fit in the slot for them to be shredded horizontally. So you put it in vertically, and then you can read almost full lines after it's been through, though making it even less secure than a strip cutter shedding machine does. Also, sometimes it doesn't even cut all the way through. I found this is because there's a staple. The description says no need to remove staples.. Sure, but it you want it to shred it, then you need to. Also, you have to pull the paper through the back manually. For whatever reason, it doesn't leave the device until the next sheets are being put through, making removal of shredder to empty the trash can a bit messy. Credit cards (one at a time). Didn't cut through. CD's.. didn't test that feature. Hubby said just microwave them. Lol
