For many people who use tools like these, it means a lot and why we would spend the extra money for a USA made tool assuming the quality of the past. I had to do a double take to see that this caliper was made in China. the quality is OK but the thumb wheel feels cheesy. If I am now in the mind set of shopping for the best Chinese tools that changes everything, and Starrett is not on that list. I have returned this item (Thank you Amazon) And bought the igaging ABSOLUTE ORIGIN Digital IP54 for a fraction of the price. I hate to say it but the Starrett brand name (And Others!) dose not mean anything to me any more, and certainly not worth 156.00$ for a "Brand Name" ..........SHOP SMART !!!
