My fault for not reading carefully enough, but the $70.00 version does not monitor your heart rate. Now that I go back and read the advertisement on the product page it seems obvious, but I was in too much of a hurry. I got the impression that both versions monitor heart rate, but only the $100 version does. Since that is the main reason I ordered the thing, I expect this fitbit will be sitting in a drawer and another $70.00 are out the window. What you get for your seventy bucks is a rather unattractive watch and a suite of apps that don't do anything an app on your iPhone won't do for you already.
