Awful
I’m baffled by so many five-star reviews. This book is bleak, depressing and poorly-written.
An abandoned child manages to survive to adulthood on her own, with no medical or dental care, no electricity or running water, and miraculously is never harmed by alligators, poisonous snakes, or other hazards of living in swampland. With only one day of formal education, she becomes a successful science writer who earns lots of royalties. Yet she is pathetically needy and naive in her relationships with men.
There is nothing joyful or inspiring in this book. I was fooled by the bestseller status and the positive reviews. I found this book to be one of the worst books that I’ve ever read.
