It was so exciting to finally order myself a weighted blanket! I bought myself the 41 x 60, 10 pound blanket. I am a small frame female mid 50's. The rating was 4.4, one of the highest. I confess I did not read the 1 star reviews. It arrived quickly and I couldn't wait to use it, so much so I took a nap =) I didn't spread it out bc I didn't want to sleep all day, lol, so I doubled it over and laid it across my torso. Pure bliss! That night I slept very well. Over the course of the next several nights, I began to sleep so so, maybe it was just me, but my sleep wasn't like the first few nights. Finally I figured that there was definitely something amiss. The blanket didn't feel as heavy ON me any longer. It only felt heavy when I went to move it, as in the entire blanket. So I felt around and there was a definite difference. I included (trying but I guess 1 minute is too long) a video and as you can see, there are squares sewn through out the base blanket. After comparing the middle squares to the outer squares, I have come to the conclusion that yes there is a significant difference in the amount of sand in the outer vs the inner squares. I'm guessing that it starts out evenly distributed, however over a short amount of time, the sand makes its way through the tiny gaps in the stitches until it reaches the edge. I looked back at the one star reviews and yep, that was the complaint, "Sand goes to the outside edges." How could their reviews be so high??? Then it dawned on me. There was a very professional looking index sized card in the box. It was a well written note requesting that if you had any problem at all to contact them and not Amazon. This way they lower their risk of truthful low star reviews.
