I feel so sorry for the pets that are left at home with this piece of junk before the owners realize it does not work most of the time. The lid sits flush with the bottom of the bowl so no water dispenses and it is completely dry! At first I blamed the filter but it does the same without the filter. Even when water has a chance to dispense it is no more than 1/4-1/2 inch! I am going to have to go back and reverse a negative review of the filter! I do not believe all the positive reviews after seeing that most all the one star reviews are the very same problem! If this item was redesigned and this problem resulted then they need to recall all of these!!! You can fix this defect by drilling a 1/4 inch hole in each of the four sides of the square filter part of the top that screws on. It will then fill at least half of the bowl and also faster. You are still able to use a filter!
