Unlike true, local storage systems, I felt like there was no way to really use this without having major privacy concerns. You have to install their mobile app to get to the terms, privacy policy, and data policy and to setup the camera. Their policies are unsurprisingly vague in key ways while also enumerating many different ways they can and will use your data - including some very broadly stated data collection practices (for example, collecting information about all WiFi networks in your area and about your mobile network service). Nevertheless, I was interested in seeing how secure and private their system could be so I started the installation process only to be stopped immediately after setting up an account. Their mobile app *requires* that you give it access to your device’s location data. There is no way to provide your location in any other way. Worse, the app says “To find the optimal server to login, Eufy Security App requests to access [sic] your location.” First, this is not a request, it’s a requirement. Second, there is absolutely no valid reason why they would need your location with that level of precision, and certainly not for the stated reason.
