I owned two Breville kettles. They both failed the same way. I know a lot of people are happy with the Breville kettles but most don't realized after a year or two of constant use, the electric contact between the base and the kettle will soon wear off. That means, the on button will not light and the unit will not work. I called Breville and found out that this new unit has the same electric contact mechanism. If you plan to use this for more than one or two years, I would consider another brand.
