Decided to test this along with an indoor zapper - Zapper won by MILES! This thing does nothing
We have had an issue going on through our entire house with fruit flies for the past 2 months. We found the source, but could not get rid of these things no matter what we did. I could not even lay in my bed at night and watch tv without one, two, three all around my head and talk about aggressive! Things were driving me nuts. I decided enough was enough and because I was not sure what would work best, I ordered this KATCHY and the Tysonir indoor zapper. Set both of them up at the same time in my bedroom with the lights off. Tysonir VS Katchy Results Literally within 1 minute of turning both units on, the Tysonir immediately started zapping them at a rate I could not believe! Every 30 seconds or shorter... ZAP! ZAP! ZAP! I have had both units running now for the last 2 hours and the KATCHY has only caught 3 fruit flies while this zapper has so many in the tray I can't even count them all! The KATCHY glue pads were not sticky at all. Fly ribbons are 50 times more sticky then these things. I could touch one and it was like just having normal scotch tape on your finger. To be fair, maybe I got a bad batch or a unit that had been sitting for far too long in a warehouse someplace. The light was ok. I think units lights were equal from what I can tell. Only difference being that the Tysonir projects more light due to the length of the bulb which I think makes for better attraction of the fruit flies. I also noticed that the fan is not all that powerful. I watched as 2 fruit flies hung on first on the light and then on the fan grill itself without being sucked in. Don't get me wrong I think this has potential but it needs a much stronger suction fan, much brighter light, and glue pads that are as sticky as a fly ribbon. Sorry KATCHY, but you have a laundry list of improvements to make to have this thing be effective. I really wanted to love this as I do like the design, but the results were a complete failure while the Tysonir dominated the fruit flies. The KATCHY is getting returned. Since this is brand new, I can not speak on the longevity of the unit. In terms of if this actually works or not though - FAIL. I don't know about other things such as house flies, mosquito, etc. but if you have a problem with fruit flies indoors, the KATCHY is a do not buy. If by some chance they have a newer model and want to send me it to test out, I would be happy to and to update this review at that time. But for now - Pass on this and go for the indoor zapper.
