I am updating my first review of this product. I apologize to all who were offended upon reading my first review wherein I assured you that the lid had been redone and was now easy to clean. Wow, was I mistaken. I do not own a tool in my vast tool box which is capable of cleaning this lid! I was grossed out a week or so ago when drinking coffee from it, when a dried piece of gunk sluffed off one of the many, unreachable surfaces and I about gagged as I felt it making its way toward the back of my throat about to be swallowed. This is s great idea, but BADLY thought out. It MUST undergo a MAJOR RE-DESIGN, making the parts of this nifty lid accessible to clean, or scrap it - because I consider myself a handyman and a fixer, and if I can't figure out how to reach the MANY UN-REACHABLE surfaces without breaking it, I doubt anybody can. Shame on Contigo for hiring "C" engineering students to design this lid!
