We welcomed our new family member with open floors.
We welcomed our new family member with open floors.
This is the first robot vacuum that we have ever adopted (purchased) from Amazon and we had high hopes that he would be a loved and contributing member of our household. We named him Bob when he emerged from the layers of cardboard packaging. He was round and cute as a button.
Once fully fed with electrons from the charging station, we let Bob crawl around our floors like any newborn. It was fascinating to watch Bob scurry about while randomly scooping up bits and pieces of left over meals and tidbits of debris from outside. We were very impressed with how quietly Bob went about his exploration.
Unfortunately, it soon became clear that Bob was going to be a troubled child. It was turning out that Bob was just big enough to crawl under the sofa and other pieces of furniture resulting in him getting permanently stuck. Being the clever parents we are, we placed strategic barriers to prevent him from going where he wasn't supposed to go. We tried and tried different ideas, but to no avail. Bob was a persistent bugger and continued to misbehave no matter what.
So one day (today) he somehow got stuck trying to get under the couch and, with his powerful cleaning action, he wore a nice bare spot in our area rug. Who knows what he was looking for? Alas, it must have been something important to his infrared eyes.
I'm sure you can guess the end to this tragic story. Yes, Bob is now comfortably on the way back to the mother ship in his cardboard blanket. We know he tried to do a good job. We understand how heartbroken he must be. After all, he was programmed to clean; and clean he did. The only problem is that Bob didn't know when to stop. Hopefully the mother ship will reprogram Bob, and those like him, to understand how to be a better family member. There may be a clean and bright future for Bob, but unfortunately not in our home.
The good:
- Very quiet operation
- Easy to use and program
- Mobile app worked fine
The bad:
- If the bumper plastic shield gets dirty it runs into objects at full speed since it can't "see" any longer
- Very persistent when trying to get somewhere (therefore my story)
