Caused pantry moth infestation!
Well, I have been using this litter for years, but am canceling my auto deliveries. It has some great qualities and some horrible qualities, and it's not cheap.
THE GOOD:
--No dust. I have 5 indoor cats and many boxes. Even a little dust in each box daily was bad for my breathing/coughing and left a coating of dust on everything (Scoop Away, I'm talking to you!).
--All natural and renewable resource.
--Clumps well.
--Unscented.
--Bags are lightweight.
THE BAD:
--This is, hands down, the worst litter for tracking I have ever seen. It gets EVERYWHERE, like a hot minute after I vaccuum. It's basically cat glitter.
--Does not control odors very well. I usually add some zeolite & charcoal granules (fish tank supplies) to help absorb the ammonia and poop smell, and that works a bit, but I don't want a perfume to cover up the smell and this really doesn't do a great job with that.
--Expensive and hard to source. Yes, I can buy it here, but sometimes you just need another bag immediately and have to wait! Poop emergencies are a thing.
--This is the worst thing. I cannot emphasize this enough. I started noticing pantry moths flying around everywhere EXCEPT my pantry. I especially noticed them crawling around inside the litter boxes. My cats all stay indoors, all the time. I don't have these bugs anywhere else logically like in my dry groceries or by water, although they have multiplied to hard to control levels. I would dump out the boxes completely, scrub them with vast quantities of Lysol, then add BRAND NEW litter from the bag and notice within a day or two, these moths crawling in the box and flying around. I then had to Google what type of moth it was and they are attracted to grain (which I guess is what this is?). I keep all my flours and stuff in sealed plastic containers in the basement and they are fine. They are not in the sinks or anywhere like that.
The moths are a nightmare. I have a kid, a dog and 5 cats. I am trying to control/eradicate the pests without spraying or bug bombing the house. I did find great traps (Dr. Killigans, black box), but I need to get all this litter replaced with something else because I'm just bringing new moths in. What a headache, and NOT CHEAP. I also notice that there are other reviewers who have complained about the bug situation, which I did not notice until TODAY. Sigh.
All in all, if it wasn't for the bugs, I would probably continue to use this. I think we are all searching for the Holy Grail of cat litter, but this ain't it. Guess I have to start looking again.
