I work in a small kitchen and every day have to open those gallon sized tins of vegetables every morning. Swing-a-Way can openers used to be the easiest and quickest way to roll around the lid without cramping your hand. Best of all, they didn't have to be replaced for years when I first started; I had one back in the early to mid 2000s that lasted for 6 years, which is incredible with the amount of use it saw. So when my old Swing-a-Way finally opened it's last can, and the other non-commercial openers you find off the shelf in Walmart or Target won't do, I was glad to see this product being sold on Amazon, and quickly bought a replacement. Unfortunately, something must have happened between my old workhouse Swing-A-Way and now, because the new can opener saw use of about a week, or a dozen large cans, before it stopped latching on when you'd turn the crank. It'd slip right off, and I'd have to use a secondary opener to start the can, and little by little work the can opener around the lid, taking about 2 minutes to open each can and a lot of frustration. I thought, well, maybe its just a bad one, so I made use of a regular Kitchen Aid opener (which, btw, I know will dull fast eventually, but so far it continues to open the gallon tins much more smoothly than I could hope for) while I placed an order for a second Swing-A-Way. When that one arrived, and I took it to work and, yup, this one didn't even make it half the week. It started to grind as if there were something caught in it's cogwheel and it just turned uselessly, not puncturing the lid at all. Maybe this cheaper unit (I've seen it listed for as high as $12+ on amazon) is from a bad factory batch, but after 2/2 being complete duds, I'm not willing to spend any more money or waste time returning back and forth til I get one that works. Until another crank can opener with the quality of the old Swing-a-Way comes onto the market, I will have to depend on the heavier grade non commercial openers, as I no longer can depend on or recommend this brand.
