For years I have wanted a Boos cutting board, but it was never in my budget. So, I finally made the plunge when this item went on sale. Upon delivery my excitement quickly faded when I discovered flaws in the board. There were 5 areas which were very rough, as if they had never been sanded. I hand sanded those areas and was able to get them pretty smooth. Per the instructions, I applied the Boos Mystery Oil and let it soak in overnight, then applied a generous coat of the Boos Cream and left it overnight. It was not until the next morning when I was at the final step of wiping off the excess cream when I found there was a 3 inch cut along the top of the board! The cut was deep enough that I was concerned about bacteria growth, so once again, I got the sandpaper out. After an hour of hand sanding the cut was half as deep, but you can still noticeable. Knowing the reputation of Boos boards I do not believe the problems I encountered were due to a quality control issue. I think the boards they're selling at a discount on Amazon are "seconds". In the end, I now own a Boos board, but I'm very disappointed by this experience.
