At first I loved this. Until realizing that the filter just floats. The filter is not secured in place anywhere. Meaning, there is NO filtering going on at all. The main reason for getting this fountain. When I went to clean it after only 2 weeks of use. The bottom of the bucket had SO MUCH hair, slimy gunk, food pieces swirling all at the bottom and being pushed back up via the flower. My kitty was meowing at me a lot and not drinking from the fountain and wanted his old just regular water bowl bowl back. I thought he was just being picky. But no, he was trying to tell me something, he was drinking slime! I felt terrible! I got this brand and model of a fountain because the REAL filtering REAL charcoal filtered "Drinkwell Pet Safe" brand water fountain is a pain in the ass to clean. Well, I threw away this trash and re-ordered the Drinkwell PetSafe water fountain. And the Drinkwell Pet Safe actual charcoal charcoal filters. Also, look at these supposed filters. There is BARELY any charcoal in them at all. Especially for that size of bucket of water. It is difficult to get a picture of it floating. But if you see the instructions, it does show the filter fitting in the place it goes. When its dry, when there's no water added. Once you add the water, the filter just floats up freely. IF the filter had more charcoal, and a simple adapter to snap it in place, so it would catch the hair and food pieces from recycling into the drinking portion then this would be great. But it doesn't and it doesn't. One star because no filtering is going on. There is barely any Charcoal in the filters. And the filters are really expensive! 4 for $13.00! Pet Safe Charcoal filters are only 3 for $4.00! Trash this. Go with Drinkwell Pet Safe fountains instead. There's a reason they are the best. Unless you don't mind cleaning this fountain every 2 days (which defeats the point.)
