I bought two of these as an added safety precaution to prevent harm to people or animals just in case. I have a glass top stove. Like the other reviewers have stated this is tempered glass with a design sticker on the back. The unit sits 2 inches above the stove top. It served its purpose until recently. After browning ground beef and after shutting the burner off, I placed the unit over the stove burner as protection and turned to the other side of my kitchen a few steps away. No more than a minute or two later the unit exploded sending shattered tempered glass and plastic through the kitchen and into the hallway. The stove top was covered in melted plastic goo and glass. It cleaned up okay. The second unit I bought is doing fine no problems. In addition and not liking to take chances I placed small round patches of fireproof/heat resistant fiberglass tape (aviation grade) on each of the 4 feet before use.
