DO NOT BUY! YES, BUY THIS! NO, DO NOT BUY THIS! YES, BUY THIS! SAY WHAT?
OK, here's the tune. I think this will help everyone. I bought the Elgato a week ago. As others said, "Yes, you do need to download the software and the driver." I did it. All worked well - download was smooth, the installation was a breeze. I got excited. I fired it up and there was no picture. No matter what I did, S-Video, VCR Video Out, - nothing worked. The "audio" came through fine - just no picture. ....So I shipped it back to Amazon which was EZ Peezy. They sent a replacement via "Prime" which I thought was great. (No cost to me). I plugged it in - same thing, NO PICTURE. I said, what's going on here!? ....There's a ton of people saying it works great, and a bunch saying it's garbage. So you are probably wondering why 1-stars and not 5-stars? Stay with me on this. Here's the deal. It has issues with certain computers. I have a Windows-10 machine with 16 gigs of ram, an I7core - a pretty nice machine. So I started scrolling through Youtube videos, found nothing. But I DID find another reviewer here on Amazon that said he switched machines and also noted it's "flakey" with certain computers - hence the reason there are 5-star reviews as well as 1-star reviews. I got mine working when I switched over to my Windows-7 laptop - and up she came. Everything ran perfectly. Nice picture, nice sound. I think Elgato needs to address this issue. I am sure it would avoid many returns. So there you have it. If your Elgato Capture Device doesn't work, it's your PC. Try switching. Use your kid's PC. Try your neighbors - you'll find one of them will work. OK, Elgato - time to put your two cents in! Outside of that, great product! PS: I give it 5-Stars (if it works on your machine).
