This is garbage.
The product description is false. Some of the reviewers said that this box has nice bass and that is what sold me on it. Since the box advertises that it also has an equalizer, I figured I could adjust for the bass that I like. That being said, there is no adjustable eq as advertised; what it has are preset options for default, pop, classic, jazz and rock. The description has recently been updated to read "The speaker has EQ sound effects, such as jazz music effect, rock music effect, classical music effect, pop sound effect and more" but that's also not true, there is no "more" unless you consider "default" (which is saying that the EQ option is "off") is an option. Sadly the best bass is when the sound setting is off, and it's pretty poor. Even if you wanted to decide that the preset settings constitute an equalizer (it does not) it's still wrong because what they don't tell you in the product description, is that those presets *only work while in bluetooth mode*.
The specs are also wrong. They claim that this pushes sound out at 30watts. When I measured it, it was barely over 10 watts. Even if you cant measure the watts the way I can, you can also definitely hear the low wattage because speakers with higher wattage will push through ambient sound and cover a greater distance. With this box, as soon as you leave the room, you can barely hear it and any extra noise will drown it out. Higher wattage will also give you cleaner sound and the sound from this box is quite distressed. One other reviewer said that the sound carried well when the box is "in a corner" of a room, that right there is a good indicator that the watts are low, even if you don't have the ability to record it as I do. You should not have to put a portable boom box in a corner to get the sound you want.
I could reluctantly tolerate the issues above if not for the bad charging system, it is completely broken. First of all, the unit has to be turned on just to see the charging status (red for low and blue for charged). There is no meter, it's either charged fully, or not and you will never know the level of the charge rate in between. The instructions don't even specify if the unit has to be turned on or not to charge it up but since the indicator only works when turned on, you pretty much have to keep it turned on anyway if you want to know the battery status. I plugged in the power supply and 6 hours later, the indicator is still red. When I contacted TENMIYA in China, they gave me more conflicting information. Instead of turning blue when charged like the booklett states, they said that the red light turns off when charged. They also said it can charge while turned off and that the charge time is "a little long". Little and long of course mean the opposite things.
A 4000maH battery will normally change in 1 to 8 hours depending on how cheap the charging system is. But in this case, after turning the box off and letting it charge for 24 hours, the light it still red, not blue like the booklet states, and not off like TENMIYA support states. In summary, the charging system is broke, and this isn't the first review mentioning this. Since the charging system is such a mess, I bet the battery wont last long, you wont have a portable boom box for long, because you will have to keep the power plugged in at all times.
I find the flashing lights to be annoying and juvenile, so after turning it on, that is the first thing I disabled. However, every time you power it up, you will have to disable the lights again because the system does not remember your choice. If they spent more time on the charging system, and less time on the flashing speaker lights, and cut the price in half, this unit might be worth it.
The FM radio is pointless because the box does not include an antenna. Unless you are next to a broadcast site, all FM radios need an antenna, even pocket radios use the wire for the headphones as an antenna and without them you won't get much of a signal. But this is now how this speaker box is designed nor should it be since it is an exteranal speaker, but with an FM radio... that does not have an antenna.
The remote is a joke. I have literally seen toy remotes that are better quality. And of course it didn't even come with those cheap $1 batteries.
This item is listed at $60, imo it is worth about $14.99. If they fixed the broken charging system then it would be worth $29.99.
