My cats love the taste so 4 stars for flavor. The low rating is due to recent changes I've discovered about Natural Balance, and that I want everyone who has a dog or cat to know about. I have been a loyal purchaser of Natural Balance LID Cat food, wet and dry, for about 6 or years (since 2012 or 2013.) It was and is 1/3 to 1/2 the price of the hypoallergenic prescription diet food my vet wanted me to buy for my cats, 1 of whom has serious food allergies. And Dick Van Patton behind it? Great! We were happy, all of us, until about 2019. Then I started to notice my 1 cat with the allergies started having mild symptoms again. Then I noticed these hard, black pieces of "I don't know what" in the wet food cans, and color change to the dry version. It can't be this trusted food could it? No... Then I took my other non-allergy-issue cat to the groomer, who told me my cat food had too much sugar in it due to what my cat's skin and fur was like. My groomer said to check my cat food manufacturer because these smaller, trustworthy companies get bought out by the likes of companies that have no business, especially the trustworthy kind, in pet food since it's not well regulated. Oh, groomer must be one of those cuckoo people. So I research it, and found out that yes, SMUCKERS the sugar-laden jam company has become one of these giant, profit blind companies and has purchased Natural Balance. The timeline for the purchase and the recent changes all line up. So I am no longer buying this and have started feeding my cats plain cooked turkey for the wet food while I test out different food brands. The one I am going with was recommended by my groomer, called American Journey. It is grain free but not limited ingredient, and yet, my cats are already better. So now I am waiting to test the wet food version. Eventually, I am just going to have to make my own (which you have to have a very precise, vet nutrition approved recipe and add supplements to), if this company also gets bought up by the giant profit driven monsters. This is exactly one of the reasons why I am one of those cuckoo hippie people like my groomer that I initially misjudged.
