Welcome Former Users Of TurboTax Deluxe! The 2014 TurboTax Premier Money-Grab Is On!
Check out that big fat "Verified Purchase" sign right below my name in this review. Yup, my wallet is $30 lighter this year because of the Intuit money-grab that forces me to buy the Premier version of TurboTax after years of buying Deluxe.
Many of you that are reading this review have been routed to this product after finding out TT Deluxe is just not what it used to be. Many basic forms were dropped from the Deluxe version forcing you to upgrade to Premier. I highly recommend you visit the Intuit web site to make sure that the forms you need are supported by the TT version you intend to buy.
In my case, all I need is a couple of lines on Schedule D. Because of this I am socked with a 76% price increase in TurboTax in 2014. What a lovely gift for the holidays.
So why did I buy? The answer is product lock-in. I have 20+ years of tax and asset data locked up in TurboTax files. The ease of simply transferring this information from year to year in TurboTax makes it a very costly proposition to switch applications. For me it is easier to pay Intuit their obnoxious $30 money-grab and not look back.
So why did I write this review? The answer it may help you to decide to NOT buy this Intuit product. If you are not tightly coupled to the TurboTax franchise, maybe this is the year that you should consider trying somebody else. I recommend to all my friends with simple forms to make use of web-based tax software provided from other manufacturers. If you have a complex return, or are concerned with web privacy, consider a PC program from somebody else.
Don't make the mistake I made years ago and inadvertently get locked in to a product like TurboTax.
