I bought this because it was the recommended charger for my truck’s yellow top battery. After watching the Optima videos and reading the manual I was under the impression that the charger would automatically switch to maintenance mode after the battery was fully charged. I woke up this morning and my battery is bulging and hissing. Depressing as it is a sealed battery that shouldn’t vent and prior to now has never had any issues. Don’t waste your $200 because you’ll actually be wasting nearly $500 after it wrecks your battery. ***UPDATE*** Emailed customer service (info@optimabattery.com) twice with no reply. After contacting customer service by phone, the only recourse was that my battery was clearly out of warranty and due to being at 50% charge has sulfated and that was why it failed. If I wanted to do anything about that I would have to take the battery to the Advance Auto parts where I bought it 4 years ago, have them test it, and email a copy of that test to the email above. I could also request warranty work on my BRAND NEW charger and IF they found it to be defective, they might issue a rebate code for a new or returned battery. Meanwhile, warranty issued items have NO WARRANTY. So... I still have to pay for a battery that worked prior to using this overpriced, yet recommended charger, and the charger I would receive back would not have a warranty. All the while I had to keep asking customer service questions like I was peeling an onion. She never offered up any help just new task to accomplish to get a "used" battery. At one point she said, "once that is done then..." didn’t even finish the sentence until I said that that wasn't a complete sentence, what happens next? I'm done with Optima, this was one of the most mind boggling experiences I have had. Never mind the fact that I still can't drive my truck while I wait on all of this back and forth. I'm going to return the charger to Amazon, and go buy a cheaper battery at O'Rielly's. Great job Optima!
