Product Inconsistency Requires Additional Time
This threaded insert has manufacturing inconsistencies that will cause you to spend alot of additional time correcting those problems. Since this insert is 1/4-20 you'd expect that a screw of that size would screw right in with no problems but that's not true. Of the 100 pieces I used there were 30 that would not accept a 1/4-20 screw no matter how hard I tried. What I had to do to correct this problem was to run a 1/4-20 tap through the insert from both ends to clear out some type of casting debris that was blocking the screw. Once I did that the insert would accept the screw but I would still have to sometimes jiggle the screw around to get it to start. P.S. Never use a 9mm drill bit which the package label says to use for creating the holes in the wood. 9mm is too large and the insert will strip out of the wood every time when you tighten the screw. I measured the diameter of the inserts I received with a dial caliper and their diameter ranged from 0.292 to 0.305 inches. I used a 5/16 (0.3125) inch drill bit instead and had no problem installing the insert in to the wood and they did not strip out of the wood when I tighten the screws.
