I am now an expert on pill cutters after buying this thing and figuring out why it doesn't work. I figured, well, it's a simple pill cutter and the reviews seem OK so I'll pay a few dollars more for a good one. WRONG!!!!! This thing is horrible and 9/10 times will just give you a very inaccurate cut and make a bunch of pill shards and crumbs. OK, so what gives? It's the most simple device on Earth. Well after studying my old pill cutter that served me very well for the past 5 years (and is finally too dull now to make clean cuts) I figured out why it works so well while this new one with a new sharp razor sucks. It's all about the placement of the hinge and angle of the blade when it contacts the pill. My old pill cutter's hinge is pretty far back from the blade so that when it first contacts the pill it is almost horizontal and parallel to the pill. I'd say the angle is about 10*(degrees) so most of the force is going down and into the pill and the pill can't move at all once the blade hits resulting in a clean straight cut. This new EZY DUD pill cutter has the hinge literally right next to the blade so that when you close it the blade is at least 45*-50* (degrees) so most of the force is pushing the pill away from the blade resulting in the pill moving and not cutting evenly. I'm still not sure why it also seems to crumble most pills creating shards and crumbs but it has to be the angle and bad design. Anyway, I rarely bother to write reviews but this thing has pissed me off enough that I wanted to warn everyone. Look for the distance of the hinge from the blade. They need to be pretty far to get the blade almost parallel when it first contacts the pill. My old awesome pill cutter is on Amazon too and it's CHEAPER than this POS. I am buying 3 of them today. APEX CAREX with a blue grippy rubber pill holder (EZY DUD is hard super slippery plastic) and a blue thing on top outside where you push to close. They call it- Apex Ultra Pill Cutter (and they mean it) IF you want a pill cutter that works that one is great. And no I don't work for Apex nor did I get a free one or anything like that.
