This is my last edit of this review. I put the current event at the top of this review, Jan 20th, 2013. Read the entries below the first one, if you wish, for more information. I am returning my Kindle 8.9 Fire. I do not really want to, because I wanted this device to work, but it is just too terribly flawed not to return. My first 8.9 had broken speakers. Amazon kindly replaced it, but the replacement was even worse. If you use the browser and try to access more than 3 sites in a row, it hard crashes and restarts. It is extremely slow..the videos tear and stutter (not just internet activities, it does it on the fully downloaded movies and books too). It randomly shuts off and restarts itself. Maybe it is because I bought the expensive one and it exceeds the $299 design, but I have lost my faith in the device. I have used it for about 2 weeks, trying to make it work, and it finally became so frustrating that I asked for a refund. I am very sad about this. I have 3 other kindles including two of the first gen Fires and I loved them. Something has changed in Amazons business strategy or another factor, I think, with this device. It simply does not measure up to the previous versions of the Kindles. ++ The 8.9 has some small annoyances, such as no on/charger light, hard to find recessed buttons, and the charger input being on the longer side of the display, so plugging it in and watching a movie is impossible. One week into ownership, the speakers on one side of my kindle stopped working. I tried a factory reset, and tested different media, all to no effect. I was going to ask for a refund, but the Amazon people were so nice to me I decided to get a replacement instead. They are getting it to me quickly and at no extra charge. I will continue to document on this device and let you know the results. I have gotten such excellent service and my other Kindles are great and I am still satisfied if the replacement takes care of the problem. I am sure out of the thousands of reviews, this will be the important one! :) (JK) +++The new device is working well. I bought the expensive one, with 64mb storage and WiFi. I think it may have been a mistake. Apple designs their pad to be a expensive device. Kindle is designed to be a cheap device. When you add allot of things into something designed to be the low end, it increases the likely hood something will go wrong. ++++The 4G provider, AT&T, is the anti-christ of companies. I really hate that amazon has a business deal with them, and that their demonic logo appears on the kindle. If you aren't familiar with AT&T, check out their history. It is one of the most customer hostile, money grubbing, POS companies in the world. The government has split them up, but they just reform in a few years.
