Followed the instructions and carefully hand washed and dried our new Coffee Gator Stainless Steel French Press before first use. (Used regular liquid dish soap, warm water and soft sponge, no scrubbing.) We immediately noticed that there was some metal corrosion and staining on the bottom metal plate of the filter assembly. See photos attached. This indicates poor quality of the steel used to make the filter assembly. When poor quality steel corrodes it can leach heavy metals such as nickel and chromium into the food or beverage. If the filter assembly has a tendency to corrode and stain just from washing with soap and water, the acid in coffee will only exacerbate this problem. Who wants a serving of heavy metals in their morning cup of coffee? -- Not us..... so we're returning this product. FYI, this product is made in China, although it was supposedly designed in the U.K. Our message to Coffee Gator: Tell your Chinese manufacturer to use higher quality stainless steel in the filter assembly, not just in the carafe. And maybe consider making some improvements to your quality-control process.
