Refusal to Honor Warranty
Let me be clear, the saw itself worked fine and I am fond of the laser used for marking cuts. My problem is with this Hitachi and a total lack of warranty on what should be a covered claim. One of the cast "feet" on the saw simply cracked off after three uses over 32 days (used the saw to cut composite deck boards). I'm not sure if there was an underlying crack, but assume there was one, and it simply fell off during a cut. I called Hitachi and was told to take it to a local drop-off for warranty service and the local place, Rite-Way Tools in Indianapolis, was fine and they were courteous.
Five days later, I receive a call that Hitachi is not covering this because "those feet just don't fall off." That is exactly what happened and now, as opposed to being just being mildly irritated by a defective product, I've essentially been accused of trying to run a scam to fix (not replace) a $150 saw. I own a handful of Hitachi tools, and generally like them, but this purchase will have been my last.
